My insurance needs

As part of your membership of Prime Super, you are entitled to default insurance cover (subject to eligibility criteria. Conditions and exclusions apply).

Your insurance cover options are determined by the division of the Fund you join - Super or Health – and full details are available in the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Member Guide. The different types of insurance cover offered are outlined below.

Death cover

Where the balance of your super account plus your insurance cover is paid to your beneficiaries in the event of your death.

Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover

Your insurance cover is paid to you in the event of your total and permanent disablement.

Income Protection cover

Where you are paid a percentage of your regular income for up to two years if you can’t work due to illness or injury. Waiting periods may apply.

Unitised or fixed cover options

Default cover is unitised which means you purchase it in units. In some circumstances, you can purchase fixed amounts of cover.

With unitised cover, the value of cover per unit depends on your age. This means that your premium remains the same but your benefit amount changes as you age.

Fixed cover on the other hand provides you with an agreed sum of insurance cover. You choose how much cover you’d like in dollars. With this option, your benefit amount remains the same, but your premiums vary year-to-year.

Occupational ratings

We offer Death and TPD insurance cover at Standard, White Collar and Professional rates. If you work in a low risk occupation, you can apply for a While Collar or Professional rating, which means you will receive a higher level of cover for the same price as members on the Standard scale.

Income protection is offered at Standard, White Collar, Professional and Special Risk rates. The special risk rating is for members in occupations which carry a significant risk and may not otherwise be eligible for this type of cover. Special risk rated insurance may carry higher premiums.
