Types of insurance cover
Prime Super offers members a number of insurance cover options.
Death only cover
Is insurance cover paid to your beneficiaries on your death. This cover is available to you if you do not want, or do not qualify for Total & Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover.
Death and Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover
Provides cover should you die, or you suffer from a sickness or injury to the point where you are no longer able to work again in any occupation.
Income Protection cover
Pays you a percentage of your regular income for up to two years if you can't work due to sickness or injury for longer than your chosen waiting period. You can choose a waiting period of 30, 60 or 90 days.
Unitised cover
Each unit of cover has a specific dollar value depending on your age, Division, and occupational category. This means that your premium remains the same, but your benefit amount changes as you get older.
Unitised cover is available for Death only and Death & TPD cover.
Fixed cover
Fixed cover provides you with an agreed benefit – you choose how much cover you'd like in dollars. With this option, your benefit amount remains the same, but your premiums vary year-to-year as you get older.
Fixed cover is available for Death, TPD and Income Protection cover.
Occupational ratings
On joining Prime Super, you will be allocated a specific occupation category:
General – if you are in the Super Division,
Health – if you are in the Health Division, or
Education – if you are in the Education Division.
If you work in a white collar or professional job, you can apply to vary your default category to obtain more cover for unitised cover, or pay lower premiums for fixed cover.
For members in occupations which carry a significant risk and may not otherwise be eligible for insurance cover, we offer the . The special risk category may carry higher premiums. More information about the special risk category can be found in our Member Guide.
We offer Death & TPD insurance cover at General, Health, Education, White Collar and Professional categories.
Income protection is offered at General, Health, Education, White Collar, Professional and Special Risk categories.
